Great convo today. David Holt and the Lightning Bolts. I love Berea. I love that they force us to go see great performers. (A few weeks ago, Pharohapos;s Daughter played. Iapos;d never heard of them before, but they were excellent.) After the performance, Zack and Tara and I made chocolate chip pecan cookies, blew darts at each other and wrestled on the couch as we tried to pick each otherapos;s noses. (Actually, Tara and Zack were more into the nose picking than I was. I donapos;t consider myself to be a winner if I end up with someone elseapos;s snot on my finger.) It was fun though.

It was rainy and yucky today. I was in a pretty low mood for a large part of the day, but when I went to open my Ecological Architecture lab and nobody showed up, I spent a good portion of the two hours dancing and listening to Iron and Wine. I got a little bit of my project done as well. (That class is constant projects. It gets really really tiring, but I am glad that Iapos;m learning more about architecture.)

A spider bite appeared on my chest yesterday morning. It swelled up a bit and was painfully itchy all day, although I resisted the urge to scratch. I may have rubbed it slightly through my shirt, but that is all. It is still big today.

Housemate Zackapos;s girl, Frances, broke up with him at the beginning of this school year. They have been together since the beginning of Freshman year and she said that she wanted to experience college as an individual. It broke his heart, but he understood. And now, two months later, she has a new boyfriend. Heapos;s beautiful, but thatapos;s about all I know about him. Tara swears that heapos;s pretty nice as well, although she isnapos;t under the impression that heapos;s interested in much more than a good time with Frances. This upsets me slightly. I think Zack is probably the nicest boy on campus and that Frances was damned lucky to have him in the first place. Then she ditches him, giving him some bullshit lie about wanting to be her own person. I havenapos;t talked to Zack about this to see how he feels, but Iapos;d imagine that heapos;s a little offended as well (although heapos;s far too nice to actually be mad about it, I think.) I think that if Frances just lost interest in her relationship with Zack or wanted to try new possibilities, she should have told him so. That would have been acceptable. She shouldnapos;t have lied.

Ahhh, the jukebox. It makes or breaks a bar, does it not? A well-crafted, diverse musical selection on a bar jukebox speaks volumes about the temperament of the staff as well as the amount of care given by the owners to insure that everyone has a great time. Iapos;ve been to a lot of bars where a carefully selected, nice eclectic mix of music on the juke is just icing on the cake. These bars get repeat business by myself and my buddies.

Then there is the Internet Jukebox, which my bar has. These usually indicate that the owners have no imagination or taste, and that directly reflects upon the barstaff, which kind of sucks. Itapos;s so easy to touch that screen and instantly bring up Rage Against the Machine, Insane Clown Posse, that "sweet" Beastie Boys track or (if youapos;re a lesbian) some 10,000 Maniacs. Dooooode They got Chris Cornell on here

Itapos;s also easy for bartenders and friends of bartenders to torture patrons with obscure, impossibly long, or just plain awful music and watch them squirm. Here is a by no means comprehensive list of songs I like to download when Iapos;m feeling a little devilish and sadistic, usually played by me after 1:30 am and Iapos;ve had it with people and I want them to go home:

1) Alan Lomax field recording - Some bizarre Italian childrenapos;s choir that is one of the most bizarre "songs" Iapos;ve ever heard, its three minutes of screeching weirdness ALWAYS elicits a "what the fuck was THAT?" every time I play it. Every time.

2) Almost anything by Sun Ra, especially if itapos;s longer than 15 minutes. Torture

3) "Night Falls on Hoboken" by Yo La Tengo - I love this song, really I do, itapos;s super pretty. BUT...itapos;s over 14 minutes long and the bassline never changes out of a slow raga-like groove. I mean it NEVER changes. For 14 minutes. Plus, lots of feedback. Pretty tedious.

4) "Monday Night Party (Are You Ready For Some Football)" by Hank Williams Jr. - People really hate this song.

5) Anything by Enrico Caruso or Pavarotti. Iapos;ve also been known to play Josh Groban. Watching Jager-slurping frat boys wince while hearing this is easily the best two bucks a person like me could spend.

6) "Yoo Doo Right" by Can - My coup-de-gras, my ace in the hole, my secret weapon. I love love LOVE this song. 20 minutes of repetitive slow-groove and chanting It just builds and builds and...goes nowhere. People really hate this song, they beg me to press the skip button. I do not. I played this last night at 2:00 am. The song and artist are displayed on the screen while the track plays, so some stumbly semi-retarded waif checked the screen to see which band was laying down the torture. "WHOEVER LIKES CAN SUCKS" she yelled to the dozen or so people left in the bar. I took it as a compliment.

7) "Always Crush Me" by Guided by Voices - I am a HUGE fan of GBV and I fucking hate this song. Itapos;s way too trebley and screechy and horrible, so it fits just fine with the Torture Jukebox experiment. Watch people literally put their fingers in their ears

This is by no means a comprehensive list of Torture Jukebox songs (I actually could do this all day), so Iapos;m gonna end it here. Time to walk the dog.

Hey, four people that read my LJ, what would some of your Torture Jukebox songs be?

Lady Lake Town Manager Bill Vance will spend this 2009 fiscal year working two full-time positions leading town operations while serving as growth management director for the town.

Vance is filling in the position left vacant after the former growth management director, Kerry Nielson, resigned in early September.

Vance said he has to do his part to keep the town wheels turning.

"Everybody is committed to doing what is necessary to get through the next fiscal year," he said. "We're going to be extremely lean until we can get additional resources where they need to be."

Vance, who won't be getting a pay increase for the next work, hopes the growth management position will be filled for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Once again I am glad I live nowhere near my sister. I just learned today sheapos;s once again charged with receiving stolen goods and her husband (which she claimed she left, but really didnapos;t), is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm (which is illegal considering heapos;s a felon).

Sheapos;s also stolen from my parents, trashed everything sheapos;s ever been given. Trashed cars she was loaned. Heck, lost one to legal impound (which incidentally was my car that I paid off and gave to my parents some years ago).

And of course ... If you ask her, none of this is ever her fault. She takes no responsibility for her life, her actions, and her mistakes. She also flat lies about everything, even when there is no point to it. You can literally watch her do something wrong, then confront her about it and sheapos;ll flat deny she did anything ... Even if you were standing there WATCHING her.

I really have no sympathy for her at this point; sheapos;s screwed her own life away and spat in the faces on anyone who ever tried to help her. I know she hates me because sheapos;s always claimed my parents apos;liked me betterapos;. No, the deal was I didnapos;t cause problems, I helped them out, and I paid my own way. I was responsible, took ownership for my mistakes, and worked to fix them when they occurred. It was for that I earned their trust, it had nothing to do with general apos;liking betterapos;.

Sheapos;s no child anymore. For goodness sake sheapos;s like 40 now. And she still canapos;t hold down a sane job or support herself. But by all thatapos;s holy ... That isnapos;t her fault. Yeah ... Right.

Annoyed,
-- Kagetsume.

The story today is about a man named William, but not William Ayers. This time itapos;s William Timmons, the head of John McCainapos;s presidential transition team. The short is that he lobbied for five years (apos;92-97) on behalf of, get this, Saddam Hussein.

"While (Mr.) Vincent and (Mr.) Park later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Husseinapos;s government, Timmons escaped prosecution claiming ignorance of the othersapos; ties to Iraq.

At the time of Timmonsapos; work with Vincent and Park on behalf of Saddam, Iraq was classified as a rogue enemy state and a sponsor of terrorism, and John McCain was a strong supporter of both military action and tough sanctions against Iraq. Timmons was directly involved in illegal lobbying efforts on behalf of Saddamapos;s Iraq during this period, and now heads up John McCainapos;s presidential transition team. Given his recent efforts to tie Barack Obama to terrorists even by the weakest of links, McCain may have a hard time wiggling out of this one." - Mark C. Eades, OpEdNews.com
